Supporter Services Manager

Island Nature Trust is Prince Edward Island’s oldest private charitable land trust, protecting natural lands and waters for wildlife and people in perpetuity. We are a membership-based organization directed by a volunteer board and supported by a small contingent of dedicated staff. There is currently an opportunity to join our team as Supporter Services Manager.

About the Position                               

The role of Supporter Services recognizes the importance of the network of supporters who help to grow the Trust: members, donors, board members and other partner organizations. The Supporter Services Manager, under direction of the Executive Director, will maintain regular communications with supporters, including:

  • coordinating the production of high-quality content for all formats and channels that engage donors, members and other supporters (newsletter, emails, social media);
  • updating relationship management software (in our case, Sumac);
  • facilitate wider brand recognition of Island Nature Trust among the general public through publicity strategies & special event planning;
  • be the first face / voice greeting supporters at the office and/or over the phone.

The Supporter Services Manager will additionally introduce new supporters to the organization, through:

  • the development of materials to further engage donors in planned giving and corporate sponsor options;
  • the development & tracking of funding applications to foundations and other supporting organizations.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or equivalent experience
  • Additional education in conservation or environmental science would be valuable

Experience

  • Minimum one years’ experience working in a communications-related field
  • Experience working or volunteering with non-profit conservation organizations would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Publisher, Sumac, Office Suite and online marketing strategies

Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media channels effectively to deliver targeted branding content
  • Outstanding, professional written and verbal communication skills; English mandatory, French working knowledge would be an asset
  • Must be able to multitask, troubleshoot and work well under pressure
  • Creativity and innovation are important assets

Knowledge & Personal Attributes

  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Knowledge of PEI’s natural environments and wildlife would be an asset
  • An understanding of land trusts and private land conservation would also be an asset

Finance Officer

We are a membership-based organization directed by a volunteer board and supported by a small contingent of dedicated staff. There is currently an opportunity to join our team as Finance Officer.

About the Position

The Finance Officer reports to the Executive Director and manages all aspects of the annual operating budget for the organization. With direction from the Executive Director, the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee, the Finance Officer will lead tracking and management of revenues and expenses, including:

  • Maintaining the books in Simply Accounting, making payments, banking, invoicing and associated tasks;
  • Tracking budgets for specific programs in a manner that aligns with funder reporting;
  • Managing payroll and associated Human Resource tasks (CRA remittances, Worker’s Compensation, benefits package delivery, tracking of vacation, sick leave and overtime);
  • Managing financial tasks associated with INT’s charitable status and land trust mandate, including issuance of charitable tax receipts, assistance with charitable information returns, property tax grants in lieu and preparation of materials for an annual external audit;
  • Assisting with accounts management for INT contract services such as administration of the Wildlife Conservation Fund;
  • Management of ongoing overhead associated with building lease, photocopy lease, phone and internet services, and insurance.

The Finance Officer will additionally work to modernize systems related to:

  • Expenses management, including staff payments and travel;
  • Updating of accounting software

The Finance Officer will work as a vital member of a small team to manage and adapt operating budgets throughout the year, assisting the Executive Director with budget preparation and program managers with expense tracking relative to funder obligations for matching funds. The Finance Officer will assist the Executive Director and board Treasurer with regular bi-monthly financial reporting to the Board of Directors.

Requirements

Education

  • Degree or diploma in accounting
  • CGA or CPA accreditation is considered an asset

Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in a finance-related field
  • Experience with Simply Accounting and Office Suite mandatory
  • Experience working or volunteering with non-profits, charities and/or land securement organizations would be considered an asset

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required
  • Must be able to multitask, troubleshoot and adapt in a fluid environment

Knowledge & Personal Attributes

  • Friendly, professional personality, willing to work independently but also as a team member
  • Knowledge of PEI’s accounting and land legislation is an asset
  • An understanding of land trusts and private land conservation would also be an asset
