Adopt a Kestrel Nestbox

Island Nature Trust and the Wildlife Conservation Technology Program from Holland College have teamed up to develop an Adopt an American Kestrel Nestbox Program on the Island.  This is a great opportunity for an individual, organization, community group or company to adopt one or more kestrel nestboxes and help to support the work of Island Nature Trust in protecting natural areas on Prince Edward Island.

By adopting a nestbox, you will be helping to protect and enhance the environment around you and also to bring awareness to this fascinating falcon who’s numbers are declining in many provinces across Canada.

This program provides a great opportunity to get outside and learn more about the American Kestrel and why nestboxes are so important for their survival.

With your adoption donation of $50, you will be supporting Island Nature Trust’s ongoing protection and management of natural areas on PEI.  Natural Areas are important to all wildlife on PEI, including the American Kestrel.

Your adoption will allow you to adopt one nestbox for the year.  You will receive a tax receipt for your donation, an official adoption certificate specific to your box.  You will also be given the chance to attend a Kestrel banding (may require the use of your own vehicle) with Holland College staff, students and volunteers. You will have the opportunity to assist in the banding process and get an up close look at the American Kestrel in it’s breeding habitat.
